Asia Argento's directorial work reveals her as a bold, provocative filmmaker unafraid to explore controversial and deeply personal subject matter. She both directed and starred in the semi-autobiographical Scarlet Diva as well as The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, bringing an intensely personal perspective to her performances in her own films.
Misunderstood marks her first feature where she focused solely on directing. The tragicomedy about a neglected teenager was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
