The bumbling gendarme Cruchot falls in love with Josépha, the widow of a police colonel, while pursuing his zealous campaign against reckless drivers in Saint-Tropez.

Retired gendarme Cruchot is bored living in luxury with his wealthy wife until a former colleague suffers amnesia after an accident. He reunites with his old police friends to help restore their comrade's memory by revisiting their former workplace in St. Tropez, causing chaos in their old uniforms.
