The Beatles Movies: Release Order
Between 1964 and 1968, The Beatles starred in three theatrical feature films that captured different phases of their rapid evolution as artists. A Hard Day's Night and Help! were both directed by Richard Lester and showcased the band as fictionalized versions of themselves during the height of Beatlemania. While A Hard Day's Night presented a quasi-documentary snapshot of their frenzied lives, Help! embraced colorful absurdist comedy in exotic locations.
Yellow Submarine marked a departure - it's an animated psychedelic adventure where actors voiced the characters, but the film features the Beatles' music and the band themselves appear briefly in live-action at the film's end. The made-for-TV film Magical Mystery Tour (1967) and the documentary Let It Be (1970) are notable works from this era but fall outside the scope of narrative features. Decades later, Peter Jackson's acclaimed documentary miniseries The Beatles: Get Back (2021) offered an intimate look at their final creative period.
