Ed Wood Movies: Essential Films
This list of four films represents the essence of Ed Wood's legacy and cult appeal. Glen or Glenda showcases his most personal work, a semi-autobiographical plea for tolerance regarding transvestism. Bride of the Monster features Bela Lugosi's last complete performance and demonstrates Wood's most technically competent filmmaking.
Plan 9 from Outer Space is Wood's most famous creation, often cited as one of the worst films ever made - however, we assure you this is not the case, as it has sincere ambition and is somewhat watchable (though far from good). Revenge of the Dead (commonly known as Night of the Ghouls), a spiritual sequel to Bride of the Monster, rounds out his signature horror style. These films capture why Wood remains celebrated despite - or because of - his technical limitations.
