Dune Movies: Release Order
The Dune films represent two distinct adaptations of Frank Herbert's landmark 1965 science fiction novel. David Lynch's Dune (1984) was the first theatrical adaptation, attempting to condense the entire novel into a single film. Despite striking visuals and an ambitious production, it received mixed reviews and Lynch himself later disowned the film due to studio interference.
Nearly four decades later, Denis Villeneuve rebooted the franchise with a fresh approach, splitting the first novel across two films. His adaptation has been widely praised for its visual grandeur, faithful storytelling, and epic scope. Lynch's and Villeneuve's versions are completely separate - different casts, different interpretations, and no narrative connection between them.
