While Flying Guillotine II continues protagonist Ma Teng's story with a recast lead actor, The Vengeful Beauty follows a new protagonist in the same universe with clear narrative echoes: defected squad member Ma Sen mirrors the original's Ma Teng. All three films share the same Yongzheng-era setting and imperial assassination squad, though the Emperor is portrayed by three different actors across the trilogy.
