The Ring Movies: American Timeline
The American version of The Ring (2002), directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Naomi Watts, became one of the highest-grossing horror remakes ever made. It follows journalist Rachel Keller as she investigates a cursed videotape that killed her niece, with the antagonist renamed Samara Morgan. The film's atmospheric horror and iconic imagery helped launch a wave of American remakes of Asian horror films.
The Ring Two (2005) reunites Watts with original Japanese director Hideo Nakata, as Rachel and her son Aidan flee to Oregon to escape the curse. However, Samara's vengeful spirit follows them, attempting to possess Aidan. This sequel takes a different approach from its Japanese counterpart, focusing more on possession and the mother-son relationship.
