The Ring Movies: Rings Timeline
Rings (2017) is an alternate sequel to The Ring (2002), completely ignoring the events of The Ring Two. Set over a decade after the original, the film follows a new generation encountering Samara's curse as it spreads through a college cult called "Rings," where members watch and share the cursed video.
This timeline introduces new mythology, including a movie within the movie that reveals previously unseen footage and explores Samara's origins through her biological father, a priest played by Vincent D'Onofrio. The film modernizes the curse for the digital age, showing it spreading online and becoming viral in both senses of the word.
